High School

She slept with who?
-What a slut!
He said what?
-What a Jerk!
She got a hundred?
-What a geek!

In high school,
perfection is impossible.

Rumors will be spread.
Girls will be bitches.
Guys will screw you over,
and your team won't always win.
Sometimes you will cry,
and sometimes you'll think it's not worth it.

But now it's senior year,
And as much as you want to leave,
you want to stay.
At least here you know what to expect.
And then you think, maybe high school isn't so bad.

  1. I like how straight-forward this is. Poetry can be so confusing, and often times at least for me, I don't understand what the message is. This is still poetic but yet gets the point across. I like this a lot!

  5. you are so good at making a powerful point in a short poem! I feel like I always get caught up in too many words, so I envy your ability to make such an impression and still be concise and articulate :) and I agree with Allie.. I definitely think you speak for a lot of us in this. nice job!

  6. Love this poem! It’s so true and there is nothing better than a poem you can relate to. I like the way you constructed the beginning of the poem, with a question and answer sort of thing! Great Poem!

  8. I love the first stanza. I think we have all had or overheard conversations like that. You reveal how ridiculous we all sound. Way to speak the truth.

  9. Haha I SO agree. Which I'm sure everyone else does because high school is definitely like this. And you're right, it's senior year, we all know how to band together to prepare ourselves for what else might be out there.
