You cannot write lies and write good poetry. Deceit, abstraction, euphemism: any one of these will doom a poem to the realm of "baffling" or "forgettable," or worse. Good poetry requires precision: if you do not attempt to say, accurately, truthfully, what you feel or see or need, then how will you achieve precision? Poetry means taking control of the language of your life. Poetry names what has been silenced and allows us to understand and articulate our connections to one another and to the world we inhabit. --June Jordan
Guidelines
This blog is meant to be a place to celebrate poetry, both your own and others. I want to encourage voice and truth on the page and encourage you to share the poems that showcase your unique experience and voice. That said, this is a public site, so any content which is deemed offensive or inappropriate will be removed. Please refrain from posting work which uses any racist, sexist or homophobic language or profanity. While I respect your right to express yourself, I ask you to be aware of audience. Also, in your comments to other writer's work, please keep it constructive and positive. This is not a workshop setting, merely a place to celebrate the bravery and truth of each individual writer.
